Gangtok: The new recruits of an IRB (India Reserve Battalion) have been advised by Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Chamling to do their duties as honest police personnel and “to serve the country and the state with dedication and responsibility”. He told them that they are getting a handsome salary from the state government as compared to other parts of the country. As chief guest Dr. Chamling was addressing the IRB recruits at their passing out parade at Paljor Stadium here on 24 June.
The three hundred and two new constables of third IRB include twenty four drivers and sixteen constables recruited on compassionate ground. The new-recruit-battalion presented Guard of Honour and along with a general salute to the Chief Minister by the parade commander Mr. Sonam Gyastso Bhutia. The battalion also presented various skills and techniques which have been learnt during the training at the Yangyang Training Center, South Sikkim and Pangthang Training Camp of East Sikkim. Chief Minister also witnessed various performances by the trainees including the pipe band and Bass Band show of Sikkim Police.
Chief Minister presented cash prizes and a token to the best performer during the training session. The awardees are Parade Commander who won cash prize of Rs. 15,000 and a token and cash prize of Rs.11,000 for 2nd in charge. Rupees 15,000 each was awarded to All Round performer from the two Police Training Centers. The best performer constables were awarded prize amount of Rs.10,000 each.
The best performers from the Yangyang Training Centre are Santosh Gajmer, best outdoor performance, Norgay P Bhutia, best Indoor performer, Topgay Lepcha, best Firing performer, Ladangpa Bhutia, best cross country performer and Mr. Rizinal Chhetri for all round performance.
From Pangthang Police Training Centre Kamal Kr. Sharma for best outdoor performance, Manoj Kr. Chhettri for best indoor performance Lakpa Pempa Bhutia for best Firing performance, Mr. Tika Ram Chhettri for best cross country performance, and Mr. Kiran Rai for best all round performance.
Chief Minister also informed the gathering about government programmes and schemes including Women Empowerment, Compassionate Ground Service, Health Service, Education, Tourism, Food and Rural based programmes, among others. He urged the people of Sikkim to build a healthy, peaceful and economically sound state and convert it as “a paradise” in future. He also advised to fight against corruption which, he said, “is present everywhere in the society in a multi dimensional form”.
Earlier, Director General of Sikkim Police Mr. Jasbir Singh presents a brief introduction on development and functions and the duties of the Police Force. The new recruits demonstrated physical exercise and techniques with and without Arms and Khukari dance.
The function was attended by the Assembly Speaker Mr. K.T Gyltsen, Mr. S.M Limboo, Dy Chairman, State Planning Commission, Cabinet Ministers, Advisors, MLAs, Mayor and Dy. Mayor GMC, Chairman, Chief Secretary, Secretaries and HODs, Government Officials, parents and the families of policemen. (With IPR input)
